Practice Areas and Specialisations

Ellis Sareen was called to the bar in 2008. He has a broad practice focusing on crime and road traffic, but also encompassing extradition, regulatory law, licensing, and some areas of civil practice.

He has developed a speciality in defending professionals charged with summary-only offences. He has defended nurses, accountants, police officers, academics and business executives on charges including assault, harassment, sexual assault and the full range of summary motoring offences.

The remainder of his practice ranges from defending and prosecuting general crime in the Crown Court and the magistrates' court, through quasi-criminal work, to civil work with a criminal aspect. He has experience in cash detention and forfeiture proceedings, confiscation, and in extradition. He has acted for claimants in tortious and Human Rights Act claims against the police and other public authorities. He is a level 2 prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, and also prosecutes for the Royal Mail and local authorities. He provides advice and representation in licensing cases.

From his previous career Ellis has skills particularly applicable to cases involving information technology and electronic evidence.
